Soho Walk, Part 2


Today we completed the Blue Guide Soho walk:


  • Wardour Street, traditionally furniture-making, now film production
  • St. Anne, a ruined Wren church 
  • The Intrepid Fox pub named in 1784 for Charles James Fox
  • Meard Street with well-preserved 18C houses
  • Berwick Street market
  • Dean Street with 18C houses and Karl Marx's house in the 1850's
  • Soho Square laid out in 1680 with at statue of Charles II by Cibber in 1681
  • French Protestant Church of 1893 in terracotta
  • Greek Street, a haunt of Francis Bacon in the 1950's
  • Cambridge Circus with the Palace Theatre of 1888
  • Seven Dials area where we had lunch at Cafe Pasta
  • St. Giles-in-the-Fields, on the site of a leper colony established 1101 by Queen Matilda
  • Centre Point, a 1960's 36-story building formerly reviled but now beloved

Finally, we stopped in the British Museum to view a few highlights before returning to the hotel.
