Tuesday

  • Mike drove us to the airport in the morning
  • Flew to La Guardia via Minneapolis on Northwest
  • Redeemed 60,000 miles to upgrade to first class
  • Taxi to the Wellington Hotel
  • Beer in the hotel bar

Wednesday

  • Walk by the theatres for our matinée and evening performances
  • Lunch at the Grand Central Oyster Bar - Jim the sand dabs, Vickie the soft-shell crabs
  • Walk by Rockefeller Center
  • Performance of Mary Stuart at the Broadhurst Theatre
  • Return to the hotel in a chilly shower
  • Dinner at Brasserie Cognac
  • Performance of The Norman Conquests, Living Together at the Circle in the Square



Thursday

  • Walk down Broadway to 18th St, turn west.
  • Lunch at The Viceroy, a café
  • Walk through the historic, enormous Chelsea Market, now shops, etc
  • Continue down 9th Ave, then Greenwich St and Hudson St to Duane Park, the first public park in the city (1797)
  • Follow Greenwich to the World Trade Center site and view from the walkway to the World Financial Center and North Cove
  • Walk back to West Broadway and ride the subway to 42nd St, then walk back to the hotel
  • After a short break, walk to Ciro Trattoria for pre-theatre dinner
  • Attend The Norman Conquests, Round and Round the Garden

Friday

  • Rain all day
  • Breakfast in the hotel coffee shop
  • Vickie to the Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • Dinner at Caffe Cielo
  • Attend The Norman Conquests, Table Manners

Saturday

  • From the Wellington, walked east along 56th St by the Trump Tower and Sony Bldg to Park Ave
  • Down Park Ave by the Lever House and Seagram Bldg then east on 53rd by the Citigroup Center to the Lipstick Bldg
  • Lunch at Dos Caminos
  • Down 3rd Ave with views of the Chrysler Bldg and the New York Life Bldg
  • After a rest, dinner at La Rivista where we sat outdoors down a few steps
  • I failed to grasp Exit the King, a play by Ionesco at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre
